Describe my task

How I solve it

What I build

I build one product identity across every system: the Shopify variant ID becomes the master, and I carry it through Merchant Center offer IDs, GA4 and Google Ads item_id, and the Meta catalogue’s content_id and the pixel’s content_ids. Then I clean the catalogue so archived, draft and duplicate products stop feeding the feed. I finish by measuring tracking quality before and after against your real orders, so the fix is proven, not asserted. Approval decisions stay with Google and Meta; I fix the technical side and say plainly when a problem is policy and not data.

The process

How it works

6 steps. Scope and a fixed price are agreed before the first one.

  1. Audit the IDs each system holds

Merchant Center, GA4, Google Ads and the Meta catalogue, side by side.

  2. Choose the master

The Shopify variant ID, mapped to each platform's field.

  3. Rebuild the feed

Offer IDs rewritten to match; archived, draft and duplicate products swept out.

  4. Align the tags and catalogue

    GA4/Ads item_id and Meta content_id and pixel content_ids.

  5. Verify one real product end to end

    across every platform.

  6. Measure before and after

against real orders, then hand over.

  • Before/after tracking quality measured against real Shopify orders.
  • A handover note on the ID standard, so new collections stay aligned.
  • An honest line on what is a data fix and what is a platform policy decision.

Built with

  • Shopify
  • Google Merchant Center
  • GA4
  • Google Ads
  • Meta catalogue + Pixel
  • a product feed app

Before → after

On a Greek herbal-tea brand, GA4 conversion coverage against every real order moved from 29% → 80% (2.7×) after the product-ID alignment and a server-side migration, with about 85% of orders captured server-side — measured 2026-07-13.

Merchant Center feed and settings repaired and linked to the correct Google Ads account inside a narrowed scope; the approval decision stayed with Google.

A note from Daniilbefore you decide

When you don’t need this

If you sell on one platform and the IDs already match, there is nothing to align. And if your products are disapproved for a policy reason, no ID change fixes that — I will tell you it is the platform’s decision and not sell you a data fix.

Questions

What people ask about this

Which ID should be the master?

The Shopify variant ID. It is the most granular, it exists for every product, and it can be carried into every platform's field.

Why do dynamic ads fail when the IDs differ?

Because the catalogue and the pixel never meet on the same product. The platform is shown one product in the feed and a different one in the event.

Will fixing the feed get my products approved?

Not necessarily. Approval belongs to the platform. I fix the technical setup and state in writing that the decision is theirs.

Do you need write access to my accounts?

Usually a collaborator role on Merchant Center plus read access to Google Ads and Meta is enough. Read-only is enough for a diagnosis.

How is the improvement proven?

Before and after, measured against your real orders — the same way the 29% → 80% figure above was read.
